It’s been full steam ahead here at ORCA HQ as we’ve been working behind the scenes on the new Briefbox branding and website which we’ll be releasing early next year, after everything has been fine tuned to the maximum. It’s been 4 years now since we started Briefbox to help people who can’t afford college or university degrees to learn design & illustration, and it’s great to see it progressing year on year.

This month our good friends over at CUPP Bubble Tea began rolling out the recent brand assets we created for them and we’ve been bubbling with excitement to see it all come to life. Here are a few snaps from their Instagram feed and we’ll be releasing the full case study in a few weeks.

We’ve also won some awesome new branding projects at ORCA which we’re itching to get our teeth into.

Max, one of our mid weight designers decided over night that he might just have what it takes to be a killer basketball player so he’s been busy shooting hoops, makin’ net and practising his B-ball skills on his lunch breaks. He’s got mad tredge, :)

B-ball has been proven to increase ones design capabilities

It’s not all Bubbles, Briefbox, Branding and B-ball though, and as always, we’ve been scouring the deepest depths of the web stumbling on new designers, illustrators, artists and all kinds of creative goodness to keep the full team here feeling inspired. So here’s some of my awesome finds this month..

Janice Sung — Pro Create Juice
A few weeks ago, I tried to tackle an illustration project by going straight in on the Ipad and soon realised that I needed to drastically improve my skills on ProCreate. Whilst stumbling around looking for a few tutorials I happened to find the awesome art work of Toronto based Illustrator Janice Sung. This girl has some serious style! Sung illustrates all kinds from landscapes and animals, to fashion. Her favourite subject to draw is people and the emotion and character in her pieces really stood out to me. Check more of her work out here.

Mark Van Leeuwen — Lettering Juice
It’s been a while since I’ve found myself searching through various profiles of lettering artists, but a recent project required some custom lettering and custom type inspiration to steer us in the right direction before hitting the drawing board. Mark Van Leeuwen provided just the inspiration we needed with his mix of traditional custom type work and impressive, cursive letter forms that work seemlessly for the various branding projects he’s worked on. Want a hit of this? Head over here for more.

Wind e-scooters — Case Study
London power house agency Ragged Edge recently completed a complete brand overhaul for e-scooter sharing company, Wind. Following a $50 million dollar investment the company took on Ragged Edge to breathe some new life and excitement into this international business. The artwork created is a super -hero themed, complete campaign that is sure to disrupt the more traditional, electric automotive identities this demographic are generally used to. I love the strength and confidence this brand evokes, and it’s sure to be hit when it’s rolled out later this year.

Dot Studio — Print Juice
At ORCA we’re a little bit bonkers about using awesome printing techniques, high spec finishes and pushing the boundaries of what’s possible when it comes to printing. We recently stumbled across London based, Dot Studio, and couldn’t help but be impressed by some of their projects they’ve worked on.

From their bio..‘Starting out with just a second-hand foiling machine, they have gradually built up their studio while pushing the limits of vintage technology to create something unique with 21st century materials and designs.’

We can’t wait to utilise these guys for some of our clients projects over the next few months so watch this space for the good stuff!
